Inter defender Cristian Chivu has hailed the talent of Barcelona ace Lionel Messi after rubbing shoulders with him on Wednesday night.
Chivu was Jose Mourinho's tool of retaliation against Messi's attacks during the San Siro battle in the Champions League. The Romanian had the tough task of marking the diminutive Argentine, and he has been left impressed by the quality of his opponent.
"Well, I can say that he is a phenomenon," Chivu told Inter Channel.
"You can tell straight away that he has an extra gear, but we did well to deal with him.
"The game against Barcelona showed that we can challenge anyone."
The next challenge for the Nerazzurri will be posed by Cagliari, who are looking for their first win this season.
"Now we have to win in the league. We have a tough game against Cagliari, but we want the three points," concluded the stopper.
