Default Enea Masiero

MILAN - Former Inter player Enea Masiero died this morning in Milan after a long illness. He was 75.
Born in Lonigo in the province of Vicenza on 8 November 1993, Masiero started his football career at local side Marzotto Valdagno, which won promotion to Serie B in the 1950s.
In the summer of 1955 he transferred to Inter, making his debut in a 2-0 home victory over Novara on 18 September 1955. It was the first of 168 competitive appearances for Inter.
Masiero, who distinguished himself for his hard work, spirit of sacrifice and versatility, scored 12 goals during his time at the club. His first goal came in the 1957/58 season.
"We were two brothers. We always shared a room during pre-match retreats," remembers Mario Corso. "He was a good person, a person we will miss," said Gianfranco Bedin.
Always proud to wear the shirt of Inter, a team he captained on several occasions, Masiero won the 1962/63 Scudetto, the first title won by Helenio Herrera's Great Inter side after a comeback. In that season he made 9 appearances.
His last outing for the Nerazzurri was in a Coppa Italia away match against Torino on 11 June 1964. Masiero left Inter for Sampdoria, making 55 appearances for the Blucerchiati before hanging up his boots in 1966.
Masiero stayed in football after his playing career, returning to Inter as an academy coach before twice leading the first first team. He took over from his ex-team-mate Giovanni Invernizzi in the 1972/73 season, stepping in for Helenio Herrera in the final months of the 1973/74 campaign. He led Inter to a fourth-place finish on both occasions.
In his final years, Masiero was a scout for the club. "With the same enthusiasm and same love for Inter that he had when he played and coached," remembered his ex-colleagues.
Massimo Moratti and FC Internazionale remember Enea with great affection and are close to his wife Augusta and their family at this time of great pain.
