Sljedeće nedjelje Inter igra u gostima protiv Chieva. Poslije toga Javier Zanetti počinje novi život. Thohir će ga ubrzo proglasiti direktorom ali je i naglasio da Zanetti mora naučiti engleski i pojedina znanja iz sfere menadžmenta. Stoga je Il Capitano upisao Ekonomiju i menadžment sporta na Univerzitetu Bocconi u Milanu.

Italijanski mediji pišu kako će Inter na kraju ove sezone povući broj 4 iz upotrebe u čast argentinskog fudbalera Javiera Zanettija.
Zanetti je odigrao posljednji susret na Giuseppe Meazzi u subotu kada su nerrazzuri sa ubjedljivih 4-1 savladali Lazio, a sada Corriere dello Sport piše kako će klub povući iz upotrebe dres sa brojem 4 po završetku sezone.
40-godišnjak je proveo 19 sezona u dresu Intera i pritom je odigrao preko 700 utakmica. Inače, Inter je dosada povukao dres sa brojem 3 u čast Giacinta Facchettija.

Kapetan Zampetti.Tako je Javier Zanetti prozvan u jednom od stripova Mickey Mouse, magazin posvećen likovima Walta Disneya i koji izlaze na kioscima svakog vikenda. Pupi je postao patak, i svojim nećacima obećava: "Mi ćemo se boriti do kraja, dečki".

Ne sviđa mi se to povlačenje brojeva. Svaka čast Zanettiju i Facchettiju ali ne trebaju se tako brojevi povlačit. Uvijek mi je smetalo što ne koristimo broj 3, samo nam treba da prestanemo koristit i broj 4. Nek oni penzionišu brojeve izvan 11 ali te najznačajnije brojeve ne trebaju.

Mislim da je Moratti ranije nekada govorio da od penzionisanja broja nema ništa, vidjet ćemo.

Over the decades that Javier Zanetti has been patrolling the right touchline or roaming the centre of the pitch he has earnt an ever growing number of admirers who marvelled at the stamina, reading of the game and his passion for the blue and black of his team. His consistency was the mark of his greatness; many cannot remember him having a back game. Whether it was shutting some of the greatest players seen in the game out of a match defensively, who can forget his the second leg against Barcelona at Camp Nou, when a 36 year old Zanetti kept the world’s greatest player Lionel Messi firmly tucked in his pocket; or making one of his trademark slaloming runs down the sideline, leaving a trail of confused and exacerbated opponents in his wake, Zanetti was indomitable for every one of his seasons at Internazionale.

But perhaps the most special thing about the el Capitano was not what he did on the pitch, although this was remarkable, it was who he was on and off it which made the biggest impression on virtually all who were lucky enough to be associated with him. He was the epitomy of fair play, never speaking badly of opponent or referee but preferring to keep such thoughts, if indeed he had them, to his own council. His is dignified in both defeat and victory, savouring the moments such as the unforgettable 2010 Champions League final with infinite passion but without using it as a podium to prove a point to others. His composure, style and condition all speak of a man who is the utmost professional, who appreciates every single day that he lives this life that as a young man he could only dream of.

Then there is his hair, the hair that somehow never seems to have even a strand out of place, no matter how many tackles he goes into or kilometres he runs. Like Sampson it is as if his hair holds the secret of his powers, his youthful exuberance. His influence in the world of football was such that over the years some of the greats have paid homage to the man who will soon be making his final home appearance for Internazionale before making a new debut, this time behind the scenes at the club he loves so much. I faced Zanetti for the first time in the Champions League quarter finals in 1999, he was the right back and I was on the left.
