Marco Materazzi’s new challenge in the Indian Super League has officially begun. The 2006 World Cup winner was appointed as player-manager of Chennaiyin FC. The former Inter defender spoke to the press yesterday: “Cricket is the most important sport in India. I think football will grow quickly and has an important future. I hope it will become a very popular sport in ten years time. I’m happy to play alongside some of the best Indian players. Player or Manager? First of all I’m the manager. Still, if the team will need me, I am ready to play”.
Materazzi is not the only Italian starting embarking on a new adventure in his career in India. Emanuele Belardi, Bruno Cirillo, coach Franco Colomba signed with Pune FC, where there is another famous former Serie A player: David Trezeguet. Alessandro Del Piero will also play for Dehli Dynamos until December.
