Njegova izjava:

APPIANO GENTILE – "I'm here at Inter now, a very important team, and I want to thank president Moratti in particular and the directors of this club. This is a great opportunity for me." Accompanied by technical director Marco Branca and sporting director Piero Ausilio, Nerazzurri striker Diego Forlan was presented to the press at the Centro Sportivo Angelo Moratti in Appiano Gentile today.
Forlan's love of Italy began in the distant past: he attended an Italian school and, "As a kid I was always watching Italian matches," he explained. "I remember watching other Uruguayan players who were at Inter before me. I love watching Italian football and I'm very proud to be here and to have this chance to play in Serie A. I've been at some important clubs but I still have the same enthusiasm I've always had. I hope to do well here and make the most of this opportunity. Was I ever close to signing for an Italian club in the past? No, they were just rumours."
Forlan joins Inter at the age of 32 in the latter stage of a thrilling career with the aim of adding more medals to his collection. "I feel good," he replied when asked if he is starting to feel the years, "and that's all that matters. Where do I think I will fit into Gasperini's new-look Inter? I don't know, for Uruguay I play in the hole while at Villarreal, Manchester United and Atletico I was the target man. I'll discuss it with Gasperini and we'll see what the best solution is. Can I be sure of a starting place? In a team like Inter with so many great players there's a lot of competition for places and you have to make sure you're always at the top of your game and then wait for the coach to decide. What I can say is that in all these years I have never played thinking about what I could win on a personal level; just doing the best thing possible for my team."
Taking up the No.9 shirt and filling the huge gap left by Eto'o is a tough ask, according to the journalists in the press room, but Forlan seemed less concerned: "It's not a problem for me. We all know that Eto'o is a fantastic player but you have to move on; players change teams all the time. I have my opportunity here now and I plan to take it and help this team win things."
Before him, other Uruguayan players plied their trade at Inter: Ruben Sosa and Alvaro Recoba. "They are both brilliant players. I spoke to Ruben just yesterday and I can see myself as a child when I used to watch him playing for Inter. I'd certainly like to have the same relationship with Moratti that Recoba did: I want to prove my worth on the pitch and win him over that way."
Diego Forlan's time at Inter has just begun but you can tell there is already Nerazzurri blood running through his veins: "Are AC Milan still the favourites for the Scudetto? Brazil and Argentina were the favourites as well but then Uruguay won the Copa America. Not all my team-mates are here yet but I know that for the players at this club, even when they aren't the favourites, they are confident that they can win any game. There's always lots of talk off the pitch but football isn't a logical game: the talking is done in 90 minutes out on the field."
